Black Actor Violently Detained by Police After Case of Racial Profiling and Mistaken Identity to Hold Press Conference

While shopping at mall, Darris Love was taken into custody at gunpoint after police mistake him for burglary suspect

LOS ANGELES – An African American actor who was at the Glendale Galleria shopping his girlfriend was violently taken into custody, handcuffed and detained for about five hours last Wednesday before authorities searching for three alleged “knock-knock burglary” suspects realized they had the wrong man. Darris Love , 38,(“Straight Outta Compton,” “CSI”) will hold a press conference at The Cochran Firm to detail his experience when police took him into custody at gunpoint at the Glendale Galleria last Wednesday when a black BMW with three alleged “knock-knock burglary” suspects led police on a chase that made its way through the North Hollywood area before being seen pulling into a parking structure near the mall.

Darris Love says that he was going to get his parking ticket validated and was walking through the parking lot at the Glendale Galleria on Wednesday at about 12:50 p.m. when he was suddenly surrounded by police and violently taken custody at gunpoint.

Love, was at the mall shopping with his girlfriend Ayesha Dumas , 39, when police threw him to the ground with guns drawn and accused him of being one of the burglary suspects. Love asked the officers to review the mall security camera footage to prove that he had been at the mall at the time of the burglary and chase but says officers refused and took him to the LAPD’s West Valley station for booking. Ms. Dumas was threatened with being an accessory to the alleged crimes and her vehicle was severely damaged in a subsequent police search before it was towed by the police.

Love believes he was targeted because he is African American. As a working actor, he is concerned that his experience was the result of racial profiling.

Love was eventually released hours later but not before his image was shown on the news as one of the suspects damaging his reputation.
